The Department of Communication Studies supports Texas State University’s Diversity and Inclusion Policy Statement:
Texas State University Diversity and Inclusion Policy Statement
Texas State believes that freedom of thought, innovation and creativity are fundamental characteristics of a community of scholars. To promote such a learning environment, the university has a special responsibility to seek diversity, to promote inclusion, to instill a global perspective in its students, and to nurture sensitivity, dialogue and mutual respect. Discrimination against or harassment of individuals on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, veterans' status, gender identity or expression are inconsistent with the purposes of the university.
Department of Communication Studies Statement
The Texas State Department of Communication Studies pursues diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice. The Department of Communication Studies supports all students’ right to learn in an environment free from discrimination, regardless of their race, sex, ability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or religious beliefs, veteran status, marital status, place of origin, immigration status, and/or political affiliation or beliefs.
The Department of Communication Studies also values open, honest, and ethical discussion about matters of public, civil, and political importance. The public exchange of ideas free from threat and intimidation is critical to maintain healthy and vibrant democratic processes.
As a department, we are committed to transforming these words from beliefs into embodied actions that will manifest in all aspects of department activities — leadership, planning, governance, curriculum, courses, extracurricular and co-curricular initiatives, relationships, and beyond.
